Are you sure bud? It is still at Best Buy for $50. This is the next stand alone to follow after the Mechwarrior 4.

Here is the link. Mercenaries

I have gone through this site a bit but I am still wondering if anyone has actually played it so I can get a first hand opinion on it. For me this is best FPS.

It's fucking great. If you liked MW4 and the expansion Black Knight, you'll really dig Mercenaries.

Be sure to play it with your Force Feedback II.

Hmm, now you're making me want to get it, heh.

Have any of you tried Steel Battalion yet for the Xbox? I just put an order in for it, hopefully it's good.

I have it. My ex boyfriend made me a copy of it (sshh).

It's kind of fun stomping around in my giant robot and firing like 100 missiles at once at things. The graphics are really nice. I don't have a big joystick though so I just use the mouse.

I don't think I could play that game with a mouse. Isn't torso twisting a PITA?

I bought the "Mech Pack". It has Mechwarrior 4, Black Knight, and Mech Commander 2 for a mere $35.00. That was such a good deal, I treated myself to Mercenaries with X-mas money.

Be sure to look for that Mech Pack though. Excellent deal.

Holy shit that is a great deal. I just reinstalled my MechWarrior 4 and Black Knight. Never bought Mech Commander 2, though now that you mention it I may have to. I'll be picking up Mercenary this afternoon and I might install it at work just to see it.

It is Done. I bought it and now I have to wait to get home so I can actually play it. I also found something that I didn't see before. An Inner Sphere expansion pack that contains 4 mechs: Highlander, Dragon, Zeus, and the Hunchback. It was only $15 so I picked it up. I prolly got screwed but that is the way things go with me and money.

There is also a Clan Mechpack out too. I think each has the same number of mechs. On the way home from picking up Mercenaries, I saw in the mech listings that those that came only in the mechpacks can be used in mercenaries if you have those packs installed too. Kind of a cool use for add-ons to a previous release even if it is for the same basic series (Mechwarrior4)

Mechpacks are cool. Get them. Not only do you get extra mechs, but you also get access to one or two extra pieces of equipment. an IFF jammer with IS (really fun in multiplayer to mess up your opponents), and an even bigger target zoom feature with the Clan MP.

MW4:Mercs is great. mmm, salvage! :D

The nonlinear (sorta) storyline is a nice change after BK and the single decision point of MW4:Vengeance. Solaris arena is a blast, and they got some nice new multiplayer maps. A much more limited selection of multiplayer game types, though.

Wingmen are about as stupid as previous games, but now you can fire the more irritating ones.

That would explain why I was getting killed in 2 shots while online in random games. They had tech I didn't have. That's annoying.

The Heavy Gauss Rifle is your friend. :D :D :D Nothing quite like knocking over a 100ton mech.

You also need to watch out for boaters taking advantage of a few heat bugs. Most recently people were complaining about PPC boats. But...once you know they're doing that, you just show up with some flamers and mess up their delicate heat balance, and *then* show them how real mechpilots fight!

I find mouse control more intuitive than a joystick. I use A and D to turn left and right, W and S for accelerating and decelerating, and I use the mouse to move the torso.

Joysticks are too clunky for me, though I have really, really, really small hands.

Just rummaged through the options. mouse & keyboard support (customizable), and joystick. Joystick is handy because you got all the weapon groups right there at your fingertips.

or, break down and pick up foot pedals and go full Virtual World style :D

I considered getting Steel Battalion but just couldn't justify the $$$. That's one kickass controller, tho.

I used to go to Virtual World *all* the time - I couldn't get enough of battletech and even red planet was fun - talk about a drain on the wallet tho.

I got Steel Battalion for christmas, all I can say is - if I actually paid for it that is - it's worth every penny. It picked up everything right about the pods, and threw out everything that was wrong. Of course I'm going to have to build my own pod for SB soon, but until then a big desk and plenty of floor space is what I have to work with.

I've been a huge fan of the MW series just because I'm a mech freak - gonna have to go out and pick this one up eventually, but SB is currently more than enough for me.
Pyrella - Illusionist - Leader of Ixtlan on Antonia Bayle

if you were walking around and you came upon a tulip with tits, would you let it be for the rest of the world to enjoy.. or would you pick it and carry it off to a secluded area to motorboat them?

Dave & Buster's acquired some of the old VW pods, but I haven't had time to check them out yet.

Tried Red Planet once, when Fightertown wasn't running Battletech. omg. Eight of us, all used to battletech, trying to finesse our way in Red Planet? We ended up turning it into a massive furball. Fun, tho.

Don't forget the biiiig subwoofer :D

MW4:Mercs ends with an interesting little teaser to MW5, which sounds like it will feature the Word of Blake.

Ok, I bought the game and installed it along with all the other mech stuff I had on Friday night. I got to play the game until about 3 am when I finally got too sleepy to shoot straight. The game is awesome. So I am thinking I'll get in a whole weekend of non stop play in.

WELL, around 6:40 am I wake up to take a piss. The wife gets up for the same reason soon as I get out of the bathroom. She sits up and her water breaks. So, after a 31 hour labor we are now the proud parents of a beautiful baby girl. Just brought her home today. :D

So, now I sit down to the computer and think I am going to play my game when I realize that I am still exhausted and will most likely not get any sleep ever again. But, I took time out before going to bed to post here.

The whole point of this post? The game kicks ass from the little I played and an epidural is the only way to go.
